In the New Year, is one of your desires to grow your faith in Christ? Without a plan, even your best intentions may fail. It might be that not knowing where to start impacts you most. Or, maybe you have an idea of where to start, but it just doesn’t get from the planning stage to the doing stage. Come along with me as I spend time focusing on ways to grow my own faith as I write this quarter. I won’t be the only blogger, and we will see other posts over the next few months – so if you haven’t yet subscribed to the blog, may I encourage you to do that so you don’t miss any of the series?
“You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37. We read and even know this passage, but what does that really look like? Loving someone involves building a relationship. It’s hard to love someone you don’t know. How can you build that special relationship you have with Christ? One of the first things to consider is making space to grow that relationship.
Think back to a time when you found yourself interested in getting to know a “special someone.” You didn’t leave opportunities to get acquainted to chance, but instead worked to make space in your life to get to know that person. Where can you make room to focus on your relationship with Christ? Is it possible to get up earlier to spend a few moments in quiet with him? Could you set a lunch hour appointment to meet with him? Or, maybe some time the last thing at night before you go to sleep? I usually take a few minutes each morning for prayer and time to read my Bible, but this year I plan to add a few minutes before bed as a way to slow my thoughts and focus on God’s love for me before my head hits the pillow. I will share more about some of the spiritual practices I plan to use and others for you to consider as we continue the series. – by Judi Brandow, Communications Specialist.
