When I was a little kid I loved church potlucks! The huge tables loaded with all kinds of food and my mom never made us take anything – we got to choose what we wanted to eat. How exciting was that! To see all the variety of foods, some we had at our house, but many times there were things on those tables that the only place I ever saw them was…on those tables! I can remember the delight and wonder of it all!
What I know now is those potlucks were never the same twice. The foods and treats were as varied as the people who brought them. And what a great analogy for the community of Jesus. No two communities of faith are the same…they are as varied as the people who show up! And the beauty is found when we see that each of our experiences and life journeys combined together make this wonderful, diverse community of Christ. When each person is welcomed at the table of community, each unique way God has spoken into someone’s life can be shared and heard.
For the next few weeks at FAITH (starting January 17th) we are going to tap into this wonderfully diverse and amazing community and listen to different voices from within our community preach. They each will bring their stories, the unique ways God speaks to them and through them, and through it all we will be able to sample a rich and tasty perspective on God and God’s creation.
So…come join us! Gather around the table; rub elbows with those around you. Come to the table and taste the incredible feast of Jesus working in the lives of those around you. Come to the table and bring your own story, bring yourself and maybe, just maybe, the potluck of community will allow God to speak to you and welcome you to the table in new and refreshing, exciting ways! Come! Taste and see! Taste and see that God is at work in amazing ways! – Pastor Jane Jebsen
