I just read about and watched videos outlining the story of a young man named Easton LaChappelle and a little girl named Momo. Easton is from Durango, CO, Momo from Florida. What brought these two together? The reality that Easton created an arm/hand prosthetic for Momo using computer and 3D printing technology alongside his own genius. Read more about this amazing story!
As amazing as the end results are (and yes I was crying by the end of the video J) what struck me today is the fact that Easton saw a possibility and then, taking the routes open to him, he persevered until he has created something life changing. And I had to ask myself, have I ever had that much drive…for anything? And then because I work with the idea of faith all day, every day, I asked myself, have I ever had that much drive in my relationship with Jesus?
I don’t know…I’m still mulling that one over…but here’s what I do…if we don’t set goals, we’ll never reach them. Even if we do set goals, we might not meet them…or we might exceed them! But if we don’t set them, we’ll never get there. And this is true for our faith as well.
Have you ever set goals for yourself for your relationship with Jesus? What happened? Are you like me – you do really well for a while then kind of taper off? Or the other thing that grabs me is my attention span – I can do something for a while – like journaling, meditating on scripture, Bible study, etc., but then I get bored with the technique and have to try something else. And yes, I allow myself to get sidetracked, and sidelined.
But that doesn’t mean I have to quit.
Following Jesus, being in relationship with him is not always easy. But as Paul in Philippians 3:12-14 tells us, in order that I may gain Christ… “Not that I have already obtained this or have already reached the goal; but I press on to make it my own, because Christ Jesus has made me his own. Beloved, I do not consider that I have made it my own; but this one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the heavenly call of God in Christ Jesus…”
Want a relationship with Jesus that is life giving? Want inspiration to change the world? Press on towards the goal of Jesus and relationship with him. Don’t know how to do it or stuck? Come talk to me. Setting goals, hitting them, exceeding them isn’t as hard as you might think. And we here at FAITH can help. Let’s press on together towards that goal that is SO worth it – and life, world changing! – Jane Jebsen, Missional Pastor
