Do you remember your first movie in a theater? I do…it was The Sound of Music and we went as a family. I was so fascinated with the larger than life people, the music, the whole experience. To this day it is still one of my favorite movies. I love getting lost in the story and the music’s not bad either!
But the story captures my heart because it is based on a real story. The characters were real people and the story was the story of their lives. Maybe they didn’t sing about everything in real life, but the story isn’t just made up…real people, real lives. And in seeing their lives, I can reflect on my own. The power of story is that it lets us see our own lives, our own stories in the midst or in light of another.
And so, for the remainder of the summer, we are going to let some master story tellers in the movies of Pixar help us see our story which is also the story of Jesus’ good news or gospel in our lives.
For our lives are stories being written as well. With the Creator as co-author with us, our stories are written on the pages of each day and there is good news — gospel for each of us — intertwined in our stories. We just have to look!
So come! Join us as we let Woody and Buzz, Joy, Violet, Dash, Mr. Fredrickson, Lightening, Nemo and more help us discover for the first time or once again the beauty of our own stories and the power they have for us and for others! See you in the movies! – Pastor Jane Jebsen
